Recycling can help your business’s bottom line by identifying inefficient consumption and waste disposal. Diverting recyclable material from your regular trash may also reduce your disposal service expenses because disposal costs for recyclables are lower than for trash. Newly adopted AB 341 requires commercial recycling for businesses and multifamily complexes with at least 5 units that generate more than 4 cubic yards of solid waste per week starting July 1, 2012. Businesses can contact the City of Rialto’s Solid Waste Management Division and request a site visit to conduct a waste audit. A waste audit looks for potential ways to divert or reduce waste such as switching cardboard box disposal from a trash bin to a recycling bin, and recommending reusable instead of disposable cups in the break room.

Assembly Bill 1826
Assembly Bill 1826 became effective April 1, 2016, the bill requires businesses to establish an organics recycling program. The law phases in the requirements on businesses and multifamily residential dwellings over time-based on the following dates by 2019. Additionally, the State law contains a trigger that will increase the scope of affected businesses, if waste reduction targets are not met.
- April 1, 2016: Businesses that generate 8 cubic yards of organic waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
- January 1, 2017: Businesses that generate 4 cubic yards of organic waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
- January 1, 2019: Businesses that generate 4 cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
- January 1, 2020: On or after January 1, 2020, the organic recycling requirements on businesses will expand to cover businesses that generate 2 cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week.
Businesses can comply by participating in one of the methods below:

Recycle food waste on-site or self-haul to an off-site location for recycling.

Construction and Demolition Information
Reuse and recycling of C&D materials is a key component of sustainable or green building construction. The efficient use of resources is a fundamental principle of green building construction. This means reducing, reusing and recycling most if not all material that remain after a construction or renovation project. Many of these materials can be reused or recycled, thus prolonging our supply of natural resources and potentially saving money in the process. In addition, diversion of C&D materials from the landfill is required by the Green Building Code and the City of Rialto.
Burrtec can help! Burrtec’s C&D program assists in meeting State regulations that require construction and demolition projects to divert 65% of C&D materials from local landfills. The program also helps to comply with local ordinance requirements, LEED certification and CalGreen building standards. Burrtec provides temporary and permanent roll-off services for Construction and Demolition projects. For all projects which have on-site source-separation, Burrtec will haul materials to the appropriate permitted disposal sites, transfer station, and/or C & D processing facility.
